Thæ
Thae (previously Athae) is a queer and disabled creative who has been striving to continue creating no matter where they're at in life. Please use the tabs above to see more about their work and where to find it.
Photography + Film
Based in Eora (Sydney), Australia, Thæ is an experienced and friendly hobbyist photographer who focuses mostly on portrait and fashion photography. They have experience working with models from all backgrounds, and, having been on the other side of the camera themselves, understand how nerve wracking it can be as a model. No matter the background, Thae always strives to make those they are collaborating with comfortable, and will work with them to bring out the best photos they can.Thae is open to collaborations of all sorts [currently on hold], and additionally has experience photographing events, and stage shows such as theater, dance, and concerts. If you'd like to work with Thae, feel free to contact them with some links to your own work and socials.
Art + Design
At the age of 14, Thae began drawing anime style work, only to stop when their disabilities worsened. At the age of 18, while studying textile design, they realised their strength lied within the abstract. Now Thae makes abstract mixed media pieces whenever they get the chance, and hopes to soon merge it with their love of textiles and fashion.Do not repost.
Sydney Street Fashion
Sydney Street Fashion is a project dedicated to documenting and celebrating the alternative and unique fashion styles worn by those in and around Eora (Sydney) Australia.
Photos take 2-3 weeks to edit.Photos are uploaded to this folder within 2-3 weeks of date taken. I only delete photos if it has been within a week since taking the photo. To be tagged, comment on the photo in the folder above with your handle (if unposted) or comment and ask directly on the post.Photos are uploaded to instagram in order and may take months.I rarely read social media DMs - use the contact form here
Missing photos may be caused by issues like blur due to rain rendering a photo unrecoverable. You're of course welcome to reach out and ask.
Commenting functionality does not appear to work consistently on mobile devices. Please access the folder via a desktop device like a laptop, tablet, or PC and try again. If that also doesn't work, please let me know directly that it isn't working.
Skipped photos may be due to obscured outfits, or outfits which turned out to be cosplay. These will be available in the folder, but not posted to instagram.
Easily done! Let me know your handle and that you'd like me not to share your content and I'll be sure to avoid it.
Only the subject of a photo has the right to edit or repost a photo that includes them. See copyright and usage for information on what kind of edits are ok and what kind of credit is requested when reposting.
I don't heavily photoshop subjects, but my editing does soften skin/blemishes slightly. Subjects are welcome to lightly edit their photos. See copyright and usage for information on what kind of edits are ok.
I take a maximum of ~3 unique poses on the day. If you'd like to work with me more, I do offer collaborations through my other account which are more stylised and focused upon you.
Prior to a week, photos are located in two-three spots only on my devices, and are completely unedited, which makes them much easier to delete. Editing and uploading, even prior to posting, results in several copies of images being made both locally and on my online storage, meaning I must track down significantly more files to delete so I do not mistakenly re-edit and re-upload them. Additionally, photos may take multiple hours to edit, meaning deletion after editing is a great loss for me, especially as a disabled individual with less time and energy than most, and deleting photos additionally counteracts one of the primary purposes of this project as a form of documentation.
If there is a pressing need for things to be deleted, for example if there was unintentional obscenity (e.g. a nip slip), or if keys are visible and unedited in a photo, then of course I will delete and rectify (where possible) images, as I usually do my best to control for these things to begin with.
I can't reply to inquiries about sydney_st_fashion photos unless the date they were taken (yy/mm/dd) and a photo of your outfit, or yourself if that is not available, is provided.Additionally please check here for info about where/when to find sydney_st_fashion photos, tagging, and more basic information/FAQs before submitting a form about them.
All work © ThaeAll work taken in public is taken under Australian arts law as amateur, non-commercial photography. Such work is not to be distributed, altered, or used commercially without prior discussion. If you use work commercially, you accept sole responsibility for any legal consequences that may arise as a result of these actions. If you are the primary subject within a photograph (or one among multiple), you may:
Make minor edits to the photo (e.g. addition of filters, changing colour, brightness, contrast, or similar, and lightly altering facial/body features).
Repost with credit to the original photographer via a link to their website or social media.
Print for personal use only.
All work taken on private property as part of a concert, stage show, or event, may be altered with minor edits, digitally distributed, and used digitally for advertisement by event hosts and performers (or their managing agents/agencies) alone. Credit is requested but not required. For further commercial use/printing please contact me first.I reserve all other rights to my photography.
All photography done by Thae is done under Australian arts law for street photographers, which outlines the right to take non-commercial photographs on public land. Under these rights it is legal to take non-commercial photographs on public land, of any buildings or individuals, regardless of consent or age.Thae endeavours to photograph on public land and follow rules set out by the jurisdiction they are shooting in. Their work is entirely non-commercial, and follows the criteria of 'amateur photography' under many Sydney City jurisdictions (e.g. Barangaroo, Sydney Harbour). Where there is no distinction for amateur photography, such as for City of Sydney itself or locations such as Sydney Olympic Park, Thae defers to Australian arts law as their photography is often spontaneous and unplanned, non-commercial, and does not meet the criteria for even the lowest level permits. They bring no more than one camera with an attached lens when in public (no tripod, no lighting, no sound equipment, etc.) and don't obstruct foot traffic, nor cause a nuisance/public disturbance. While not legally required, Thae always asks the subject(s) of their photos for permission prior to taking their photo and ensures they understand what the photograph will be used for. The only exception to this are individuals in the background, and Thae does their best to ensure these people will be out of or blurred in their photo, though this is not always possible. Thae also endeavours to ask only those of age 16+ for their photos, with parental permission for those obviously younger, but can not guarantee age based on appearance alone. If Thae is breaking the rules of the jurisdiction they are taking photos on, please explicitly point out what rule and where they can find the rules of the jurisdiction so they can ensure they do not break any further rules in the future. Likewise, if Thae is mistakenly shooting on private land, please inform them and let them know. Thae is a disabled individual and may not always understand or interpret things correctly, please be explicit and calm in your explanations.
